Reflective blog AH/HON 4240_1

I am very excited about an art history class that takes students out into the immediate community to make a difference in the lives of others. Our recent bus tour took us to learn about the programs at four WSU Community Partner's locations within the city of Detroit.

The establishments we visited were Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Mariners Inn, Heidelberg Project Office, and Children’s Hospital of Michigan. WSU Students are given the option to volunteer their individual talents as artist in the program of their choice. This unique experience gives me, and fellow students, the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

I had no idea that programs such as those we learned about were playing such an important role in enriching the lives of others with art. These programs make art accessible to those who might not otherwise benefit from the exposure of seeing art and creating art.
